There are three different themes of research at NetroDis . These are:

  • Xenomonitoring of parasitic diseases
  • Impact of climate change on parasitic diseases
  • Parasitic enzymes as therapeutic targets.

Xenomonitoring of Parasitic Diseases

This research theme involves the monitoring of vectors of parasitic diseases to understand vectorial capacity and transmission patterns of these diseases. Ongoing xenomonitoring field and laboratory work involves Simulium (black flies) vectors of onchocerciasis.

Impacts of Climate Change

This research theme focuses on the effects of changing climatological factors (temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind speed, sunshine hours etc) on the transmission dynamics of neglected tropical diseases.

Parasitic Enzymes as Therapeutic Targets

This theme focuses on investigation into metabolic enzymes of parasites and enzyme inhibition. The goal is to unravel choke point enzymes which can be targeted for drug development.
